Meeting Description:

The 2020 annual conference of the Linguistic Association of Canada and the
United States will be held August 4-6, 2020 at Molloy College

The conference theme is
Linguistic Journeys: Exploring Language across Time and Space

Abstracts. While abstracts presenting empirically grounded investigations in
any theoretical framework into aspects of the conference theme are especially
welcome, LACUS invites abstracts representing a broad range of approaches to
language, including interdisciplinary topics and innovative ideas. The
following list of topics is intended as suggestive rather than comprehensive
or restrictive.

- Environmental linguistics
- Sociolinguistics
- Dialectology
- Ethnolinguistics
- Diachronic linguistics
- Developmental linguistics
- Context and meaning
- International communication
- Linguistic standardization
- Group interactions in different settings
- Changes in group interactions over time


Call for Papers: 

The Presidents' Prize, which includes a cash award of US$500, is awarded to
the most outstanding paper presented at a LACUS conference by a junior
scholar. 

A runner-up prize, with a cash award of US$100, is given to the next-best
paper (same criteria) by a junior scholar (same definition).

Important Dates:

The following is the planned timeline for LACUS 2020. Authors of abstracts
submitted by Nov. 30, 2020, will be informed of its acceptance or rejection by
Dec. 15. Authors of abstracts submitted after Nov. 30 will receive
notification by March 15.

- 15 FEB 2020: Second Round (Final) abstract submission deadline
- 15 MAR 2020: Notification of acceptance / rejection of Second Round (Final)
submissions
- 31 MAR 2020: Deadline for receipt of confirmation of attendance from
presenters
- 10 APR 2020: Deadline for receipt of presenter registration and membership
fees
- 15 APR 2020: First release of preliminary program
- 4-6 AUG 2020: LACUS Conference
* 4 AUG 2020: Board meeting, registration, reception, opening plenary)
* 5 AUG 2020: Parallel sessions
* 6 AUG 20202: Parallel sessions, Pub. Committee, Presidential Banquet

Presenters are required to be members of LACUS and to be registered for the
conference. Regardless of acceptance status, anyone who has not registered and
paid registration and membership fees by March 30, 2020 will not have their
paper scheduled on the program not will their abstract be published in the
2020 LACUS Meeting Handbook.
