Meeting Description:

This year's ILA conference theme is: Indigenous Languages and Cultures of the
Americas, for which we are soliciting abstracts on all aspects of the
description, documentation, and decipherment of texts of pre-colonial
traditions.  Papers are also invited on the sociolinguistic documentation and
revitalization efforts of the speech communities of aboriginal Canada, the US,
and Latin America. In keeping with the ILA tradition, we also invite
individual papers or posters on other areas of linguistics.


2nd Call for Papers:

Topics may include (but are not limited to) the following:

- Classification of indigenous languages
- Linguistic structures/typologies
- Endangered languages/cultures
- Bi/multilingualism & education
- Quechua, Aymara & other languages of the Andes
- Amazonian languages
- Revitalization/language planning
- Mayan, Nahuatl languages 
- Cosmologies & glyphic symbolism
- Native American narrative
- Indigenous writing systems

Each presentation should last no more than twenty-five minutes, including time
for questions and discussion. Proposals also may be submitted for three-hour
workshops for teachers on topics related to the teaching of language, literacy
and/or linguistics.

Guidelines:

Papers/Posters:

A paper or poster title and abstract of between 300 & 400 words, excluding
references, is required along with a summary abstract for the conference
booklet of no more than 150 words. The author's name, institutional
affiliation, mailing address, & phone number must also be included. 

Workshops:

A brief presentation/rationale of about 200 words should argue for the
relevance of the theoretical/applied content in language, linguistics or
literacy that will be explored/examined during the workshop. Objectives, a
brief description of the activities to be implemented during the session,& a
maximum of 5 reading references should be included in the proposal. A separate
CV (100 words) of the workshop leader/s indicating relevant
workshop/instructional experience is also required.

All proposals will be blind reviewed for quality & originality. Submissions
should mainly contain new material & must not have been published previously
in order to be considered. All proposals should be emailed in a MSWord (.doc,
.docx) file and using “ILA2020” in the subject line, to Antoinette Jones,
Conference Coordinator at netta.jones at ilaword.org by Monday, January 20, 2020.

Proposal acceptances will be sent by Monday, February 10, 2020. The author(s)
whose proposals have been accepted for the ILA Annual Conference must register
by the Saturday, February 29, 2020 pre-registration deadline in order to be
included in the Conference Program.

- ILA Members: US $150 (conference fee for paid-up 2019 ILA members)
- Non-Members: US $200 (includes conference fee & membership with 1 year WORD)
- Graduate Students, Retirees: US $130 (includes conference fee & membership
with 1 year WORD)
- Undergraduate students, K-12 teachers: US $80 (includes conference fee &
membership with 1 year WORD)

Registration fees from Sunday, March 1st, 2020
- ILA Members: US $250 (conference fee for paid-up 2019 ILA members)
- Non-Members: US $310 (conference fee & membership with 1 year WORD)
- Graduate Students, Retirees: US $160 (conference fee & membership with 1
year WORD)
- Undergraduate Students: US $100

Workshop Registration fee (One Day Registration)
- K-12 Teachers: US $30 (includes access to same day plenary session)

ONE DAY Registration fee (on site):
- Members and Non-Members: US $100
- Graduate Students and Retirees: US $75
