Meeting Description:

The MULTIMAT Research group at the Institute for Multilingualism is proud to
announce its Sixth Annual Spring Research Seminar ''Multilingualism and
Language Learning'', the purpose of which is to gather specialists on
bi/multilingualism research from different methodological perspectives.

Invited Speakers:

Dr. Cristina Escobar Urmeneta (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Spain)
Dr. Roger Gilabert (Universitat de Barcelona, Spain)


Call for Papers:

We invite proposals for individual or joint presentations of 15-min. (+ 5-min
discussion) related to the study of bi/multilingualism and teaching and
learning in multilingual contexts within the Applied Linguistics area. We
encourage submissions from the subfields of:

- L1/L2/L3 Language acquisition and language learning 
- Language for specific purposes 
- Content and language integrated teaching and learning 
- Teacher education and curriculum design
- Language psychology, child language, and psycholinguistics 
- The acquisition of pragmatics
- Cognitive and linguistic effects of multilingualism

Abstracts of a maximum of 500 words can be submitted by January 31, 2020 to
multiling at uic.cat. Notification of acceptance will be sent out by February 15.

The Institute for Multilingualism has been established as a centre of
reference for multilingual education at UIC and for the integration of applied
linguistics with multilingual education. Current research and development
focus on Integrated Content and Language Learning in Higher Education
(ICL-HE), English Mediated Instruction (EMI), the Acquisition of Pragmatics in
multilingual children, and the effects of bilingualism in the development of a
third language and vice versa. The Institute is also actively involved in the
linguistic preparation of the entire university community and of society in
general.

The Sixth Annual Spring Research Seminar will take place on Friday 13 March
2020, from 9.00 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Saló de Graus on the UIC Barcelona
Campus (C/ Immaculada, 22). The event is free and open to the public;
registration is needed.
