Location: Lima, Peru
Contact Person: Jaime Peña
Meeting Email: swl9.conference at gmail.com
Web Site: http://congreso.pucp.edu.pe/syntax/

Linguistic Field(s): Syntax; Typology

Call Deadline: 21-Feb-2020

Meeting Description:

In the same spirit as previous conferences in this series (SWL I – Leipzig
2004, SWL II – Lancaster 2006, SWL III – Berlin 2008, SWL IV – Lyon 2010, SWL
V - Dubrovnik 2012 and SWL VI - Pavia 2014, SWL VII – Mexico DF, and SWL VIII
- Paris), SWL IX will provide a forum for linguists working on the syntax of
less widely studied languages from a variety of perspectives.

The SWL IX will take place in Lima in September 2020, and it will be hosted by
the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP).

The main purpose of the conference is to enlarge our knowledge and
understanding of syntactic diversity. The topics relevant to the conference
include, for example, aspects of basic clause structure, argument structure
(e.g. grammatical relations, diathesis, linking, argument coding, clitics),
morpho-syntactic complexity, intra-clausal dependencies (e.g. agreement
systems, binding, control), inter-clausal dependencies (e.g. reference
tracking, clause-linking), the structure of noun phrases, morphological and
syntactic asymmetries, the expression of information structure, the interface
between syntax and other areas of grammar (morphology, phonology, semantics,
pragmatics), among others.

Invited Speakers:
Marianne Mithun, University of California at Santa Barbara
Nicholas Evans, Australian National University

Local Committee:
Jaime Peña
Mari Fernández
Roberto Zariquiey

Call for Papers:

We welcome submissions for 20 minute talks, which will be followed by 10
minutes of discussion. Contributions are expected to be based on first-hand
data of individual languages or to adopt a broadly comparative perspective.
All theoretical frameworks are equally welcome. Papers that adopt a diachronic
or comparative perspective are also welcome, as are papers dealing with
morphological or semantic issues, as long as syntactic issues also play a
role.

Anonymous abstracts in .pdf format of no more than 1 page (plus possibly an
additional page for examples and references) should be submitted
electronically via the EasyAbs website
(http://linguistlist.org/easyabs/SWL9-2020). Abstracts must be written in
English, with fully glossed examples conforming to the Leipzig glossing rules.
Please romanize all Asian texts, and do not use Asian character fonts unless
absolutely required. The conference will be held in English.
Each individual may submit up to one single authored contribution and one
co-authored/joint contribution.

We will also offer slots for posters, if you would like your paper to be
considered for a poster slot, please indicate so during your submission.

The dealine for abstract submission has been extended to February 21, 2020.
Applicants will be notified of acceptance by March 30, 2020.
