Position Description:

The Department of Linguistics in the Division of the Humanities invites
applications for a Senior Lecturer in Modern Greek and Associate Director of
the newly founded Center for Hellenic Studies. Working under the direction of
the faculty Director of the Center for Hellenic Studies, the selected
candidate will provide administrative support to the Director and will:

- help to develop an interdisciplinary program in modern Greek studies,
- supervise any staff working for the Center,
- manage the resources and budget of the Center,
- organize and promote Center events,
- develop and maintain publicity materials, including a website,
- work to secure grants and other funding sources, and
- cooperate across all areas of the University community to address curricular
and other programmatic needs, including faculty and other academics, staff,
and the Study Abroad office.

The selected candidate will also be expected to teach six courses per year on
the University’s quarter system: a year-long introductory modern Greek
language sequence (three courses) and three other courses in consultation with
the Director of the Center and the Department of Linguistics. The Senior
Lecturer in Modern Greek will also supervise any other academic appointees
teaching in the Modern Greek curriculum.

Qualifications:

A PhD in a relevant field in the humanities or social sciences is required.
The selected candidate will have demonstrated success as a teacher of modern
Greek at the university level as well as the ability to teach and design
curriculum and co-curricular programming in other areas related to Greece and
its culture, history, languages, and people, and to teach general courses in
the University’s Humanities core program. Candidates should also be able to
demonstrate the administrative expertise necessary to support and manage an
interdisciplinary center and to assist with its fundraising and outreach
efforts.
