Call Deadline: 31-Jul-2020

Meeting Description:

The International Conference on Gender, Language and Education (ICGLE) seeks
to bring together academics, researchers, community leaders, policymakers,
education practitioners and research postgraduate students from the worldwide
community to explore equality and diversity issues in language and education
through a gendered lens. Since gender inequalities have been the focus of
heated debate around the world, the ICGLE aims to call for collaborative
action to address systemic (gender) inequalities, particularly in the Asian
context. It is hoped that through the conference, a platform for knowledge
transfer and capacity-building of multi-disciplinary studies of gender may be
established in the region. Over the course of the ICGLE, we invite keynote
speeches, themed panels and paper and/or poster presentations on topics
related to the conference theme 'Gender, Language and Education: Equality and
Diversity Issues in Asia and Beyond'.

Call for Papers:

Our conference theme, Gender, Language and Education: Equality and Diversity
Issues in Asia, aims to spur conversation about the multitude of ways in which
inequalities shape language and education, particularly in the Asian context,
and how these inequalities are both enforced and challenged within and through
language and education. We invite contributions in three formats: academic
papers, poster presentations, and themed panels.

Abstract submission guidelines are as follows:
- Paper or poster presentations: all submissions should be in English. Each
submission should have an abstract of 300 words maximum, and 3 to 5 keywords.
- Themed panels (3 to 4 presentations per proposal on a specific topic):
please include a 150-word maximum overview of the session, and a title and
abstract for each presentation to be included in the panel session. Each
presentation included in the panel discussion should have an abstract of 300
words maximum and 3 to 5 keywords.
- All submissions: in-text citations are welcome but the inclusion of a
reference list is unnecessary.
- Each presenter is limited to one individual paper/poster presentation and
one joint paper/poster presentation/panel discussion, or two joint
presentations.
- Abstract submissions for paper or poster presentations should be made
through EasyChair (https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=icgle2020). For
themed panels, abstract submissions should be sent directly to the Conference
Secretariat (icgle2020eduhk.hk) using the application form.

The themes that can be explored include (but are not limited to) the
following:
- Gender and language;
- Gender and literature;
- Gender, popular culture and education;
- Gender and STEM education;
- Sexuality education;
- Gender equality in education policy, practice and pedagogy;
- Gender and educational management and leadership;
- Women’s empowerment in education;
- Gender differences in educational attainment;
- Sexual harassment, heterosexism, homo- and transphobia in the education
sector;
- Intersectionality in education: how gender interacts with other social
differences; and
- Other relevant areas.

Presentations related to gender equity education in the Asia-Pacific region,
including those that deal with topics other than the themes above and those
from research postgraduate students that describe their research in progress,
are also welcomed.
