Full Title: Meeting ''Linguistique Informatique, Formelle et de Terrain''
Short Title: LIFT Meeting

Date: 10-Dec-2020 - 11-Dec-2020
Location: Paris, France
Contact Person: Emmanuel Schang
Meeting Email: emmanuel.schang at univ-orleans.fr
Web Site: https://gdr-lift.loria.fr/

Linguistic Field(s): Computational Linguistics; General Linguistics; Language Documentation; Text/Corpus Linguistics

Call Deadline: 15-Oct-2020

Meeting Description:

The GdR LIFT (Research Group ''Linguistique Informatique, Formelle et de
Terrain'') is organizing a two day meeting. Two special themes are proposed
for these days: (i) Tree corpora and syntax and (ii) Grammar and Field
Linguistics. The objective of the meeting is to foster interactions between
computational linguistics, formal linguistics and field linguistics, in order
to promote the development of research in linguistics that makes the most of
new technologies.

In addition to guest speakers, this meeting will include moments of exchange
through the presentation of current research work. Those wishing to present
their work are invited to submit an extended abstract (limited to 2 pages).
Abstracts selected for presentation will be published in the proceedings (and
uploaded in the HAL open archive). The possibility of selecting abstracts for
publication in a scientific journal is under consideration.

Call for Papers:

Important Dates:
Abstract submission: October 15, 2020
Notification to authors: November 7, 2020
Submission of final versions: December 1, 2020
LIFT Meeting: December 10-11, 2020

Themes:
Papers may cover all LIFT themes as well as the themes of the two special
sessions (Treebanks and Syntax; Grammar and Field Linguistics), including, but
not limited to, the following:
- Feedback on the use and/or development of computer tools for linguistic
analysis
- Computational Linguistics and Open Science: Opportunities opened by sharing
data, tools and publications
- Computer modeling and formal linguistics (formal language theory,
unification grammars, proof theory...)
- Interactions between linguistic models and machine learning models (of all
types: generative and discriminating approaches, neural statistical
approaches, encoder-decoder approaches, etc.).
- Unsupervised or weakly supervised methods for the analysis of low-resourced
or undocumented languages
- Automation of analysis and validation processes

All proposals that fall within the themes of the meeting are welcome. It is
possible to present both completed work and work in progress. The LIFT meeting
aims at presenting results as well as fostering collaborations (e.g., a NLP
expert wishing to apply a tool on various language data; a field linguist
wishing to automate an annotation task, etc.).

Format:
The abstracts will be maximum 2 pages long. Submissions should conform to the
official guidelines contained in the style files
(https://mycore.core-cloud.net/index.php/s/YI4oEOQcw0vhQWj) and be in PDF
format. Selected papers will be presented in poster format.

Location:
Depending on the health situation, the meeting will be either face-to-face,
virtual, or in a hybrid formula. The venue chosen will be as central as
possible to facilitate participation in the conference. Scholarships will be
available to allow a maximum number of people to participate.

Organizing Committee:
Yannick Parmentier, LORIA/University of Lorraine
Thierry Poibeau, LATTICE/CNRS
Emmanuel Schang, LLL/University of Orleans
