Current Trends in Discourse Analysis and Applied Linguistics: A Festschrift
for Moji Olateju

Discourse Analysis and Applied Linguistics are two aspects of language studies
that continue to generate a great deal of global attention among scholars.
This is due to the sub-disciplines’ reflection of the dynamic relationship
between language and society and their manifestations of the resourcefulness
of language and linguistic scholarship in mediating real life human concerns.
Mojisola Ajibike Olateju, a distinguished professor of Discourse Analysis and
Applied Linguistics in the Department of English, Obafemi Awolowo University,
Ile-Ife, Nigeria, with a burning zeal for deploying linguistic knowledge for
the service of her society, has contributed immensely to research in these two
areas. Professor Olateju has cut her teeth in the waters of the academic world
for over two decades.

For Professor Mojisola Olateju’s immeasurable contributions to Discourse
Analysis and Applied Linguistics scholarship in Nigeria, we are convinced that
she deserves a festschrift. The proposed festschrift titled Current Trends in
Discourse Analysis and Applied Linguistics: A Festschrift for Moji Olateju
will give room for scholars in language and literary studies to interrogate
current trends in the aspects of Discourse Analysis and Applied Linguistics
that Professor Olateju’s teaching and research revolve around. Thus,
interested scholars in Critical Discourse Analysis, Pragmatics, Advertising
Discourse, Literary Discourse, Political Discourse, Reading and Literacy in
general, among others, are invited to contribute to this project. Such
contributions are expected to address the following topics and related ones
that are not listed:

1. Emerging patterns of literacy in the digital age
2. Functional literacy discourse in a developing country
3. Political discourse analysis and the challenges of democratic
consolidation in Africa
4. Conversation analysis in student-centred learning interactions
5. Analysis of conflict resolution discourse
6. Stance and engagement in gendered and non-gendered discourses
7. Analysis of fear and empathy discourses in disaster-related news
8. Social stratification and identity construction in social media
9. Negotiating peace in quasi-judicial discourse
10. Psychological hooks in children’s literature
11. Marketing strategies on online advertisement sites
12. Multimodality: theory and practice

Interested contributors are to submit manuscripts, formatted using the latest
APA Referencing Style (7th edition), and not exceeding 8000 words, by
September 30, 2020. Such manuscripts should not reflect the author’s identity.
A separate sheet should be submitted along with the manuscript containing the
following information: (i) title of the paper (ii) author’s name (iii)
author’s affiliation (iv) author’s email and phone number and (v) author’s
short bio. Review reports of authors’ submissions will be sent out by October
31, 2020. Revisions of manuscripts considered publishable will be due for
submission by December 31, 2020. The festschrift is expected to be published
by June 2021.

All submissions should be sent electronically to olatejufests at gmail.com. For
