Meeting Description:

METI (Messaging Extraterrestrial Intelligence) International has a unique
two-day presentation opportunity: one day on the 28th and a follow-up day on
the 31st at the International Space Development Conference. Our theme is
Communication Across the Vastness: How to Send a Message Across Time, Through
Space, or Between Human and Extraterrestrial Cultures.


Call for Participation: 

We still have slots open for the METI  session at 2020 International Space
Development Conference this year to be held at the Embassy Suites by Hilton
Dallas-Frisco Hotel and Convention Center on Thursday, May 28 through Sunday,
May 31. 

Communication Across the Vastness:

METI International has a unique two-day presentation opportunity: one day the
28th and a follow-up day on the 31st.  Our theme is communication Across the
Vastness: How to send a message across time, through space or between
Cultures.

Presentations on any topic related to our theme are welcome, including but not
limited to:
 - Message construction
 - Message Decoding
 - Preservation of Messages Sent
 - Language  Change across the centuries
 - Cognitive Changes across the Centuries
 - Cultural change across the Centuries
 - Communication between  Earth from Generation ships
 - Preservation of Human Cultures
 - Communicating across great cultural differences
 - Communicating across differences shaped by body type or sensory modality

In addition to our formal set of papers we are trying something new: a
simulation/game/contest investigating different approaches to content
preservation across time. For anyone who wants to play:

On Thursday,  we will launch a generation ship and you will be trusted with
crucial information that must be available to the ship’s passengers and crew
in 700 years when they arrive at their destination.  How you do this is up to
you: you can encode the message in a version of future English, make it into a
song? A dance? A picture? Something fancier? How will the info be maintained
intact over all those generations?

Our panel of judges will look these over and the best (or wildest, or most
amusing) will be asked to briefly present on Sunday.  Of course, there will be
prizes.

Participation in both or either these events are welcome: one does not
necessarily imply the other.

I’m happy to respond to questions or help guide a submission through the
process.
