Meeting Description:

We are pleased to invite talk proposals for Arizona Linguistics Circle 14. The
Arizona Linguistics Circle is an annual graduate student-run conference held
at the University of Arizona. The theme of this year’s conference is Language
Technology and Media, that is work that employs media technologies or research
involving language in media. However, abstracts from all areas of linguistics
are welcome and encouraged. Our goal is to foster a deeper appreciation for
linguistics while providing a healthy environment for academic discussion. 

This year's keynote speakers will include Sonja Lanehart (University of
Arizona), Ellen Riloff (University of Utah), and Gareth Roberts (University of
Pennsylvania).


Call for Papers: 

Abstracts are invited for 20-minute talks with 10-minute question periods to
follow. Submissions are limited to one individual and one joint abstract per
author. Abstracts should be a maximum of 500 words in length not including
keywords, references, figures, and tableaux. Abstracts should include some
discussion of data and indicate that the project is of reasonable depth. All
abstracts should be anonymous: abstracts which contain author-identifying
information will be rejected.

Abstract submission is via EasyChair (https://easychair.org/cfp/alc14).

Abstract submissions deadline: July 13, 2020
Notification of acceptance: August 24, 2020
Conference dates: October 16-18, 2020

NOTE: The COVID pandemic has created some uncertainty about how ALC14 will
take place. The organizing committee is currently planning the conference with
the expectation that it will be held in-person in October. However, depending
on what the situation looks like as we approach the conference dates, we may
explore the possibility of moving the conference to a virtual format. The
final decision will be made in August or early September with special
attention paid to the preferences of the accepted authors.
