Meeting Description:

We are pleased to announce that the 9th Biennial International Conference on
the Linguistics of Contemporary English (BICLCE) will be held from 23 to 25
September 2021 in Slovenia, at the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Arts.

Over the last two decades, the BICLCE conference has become a platform for
various theoretical and methodological approaches to the study of English and
its varieties. As such, it has also become a point of reference for
interdisciplinary cross-pollination. With a focus on the holistic presentation
of current linguistic research, the BICLCE conference traditionally
accommodates papers, presentations and workshops on the syntax, morphology,
phonology, sociolinguistics, semantics and pragmatics of contemporary English.

We are delighted to announce the following plenary speakers:
 - Paul Baker
 - Susan Conrad
 - Gaëtanelle Gilquin
 - Manfred Krug

Call for Papers:

We invite abstracts addressing every aspect of contemporary English, and
especially encourage proposals that engage with variation in English, second
language acquisition and development, discourse analysis and metadiscourse,
constructions, metaphor, politeness, formulaic language, academic writing,
language contact, corpus-based studies and statistical models.

Please note that any proposals on historical topics should be related to the
study of present-day English.

Abstract Submission:
At this stage, abstract submissions are invited for thematic workshops
featuring up to 6 individual papers.
The call for individual full papers and poster presentations will be published
in September 2020. Please submit your proposals via
https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=biclce2021 by 31 August 2020; please
make sure that the abstracts do not exceed 300 words and contain no names of
the authors. All enquiries about the conference should be sent to
9biclce at guest.arnes.si.
