CfP: Science communication in times of crisis (tentative title)

This collective volume will offer an interdisciplinary perspective on science
communication in times of crises (health crises, economic crises, political
crises etc.). Contributions should be based upon an analysis of data and can
be concerned with various aspects such as (among others): the role of public
institutions and specific actors, e. g. scientists, politicans, political
activists or public intellectuals; ways of communicating scientific
controversies, paradigms, methods, and findings (including ways of addressing
uncertainty); the public perception of science; the role of misinformation;
differences between natural sciences, humanities, social sciences; changing
media structures (e. g. ‘traditional‘ vs. ‘new‘ formats of science
commmunication), etc.

Various disciplines (communication science, linguistics, political sciences,
sociology etc.) as well as methods (both quantitative and qualitative) are
addressed. Contributions that critically review previous research in the area
along the lines of selected criteria are also also welcome.

Please submit a short biographical note (including current affiliation and
correspondence eMail address) and an abstract (max. 400 words) until
30/12/2020. The abstract should include the main theoretical assumptions, the
methodology and (preliminary) findings. Proposals should be submitted to
Pascal Hohaus (pascal.hohaus at engsem.uni-hannover.de) - final papers will be
peer-reviewed.
