Description:

With the launch of a new National Center of Competence in Research (NCCR)
Evolving Language, which involves nearly 40 different research groups from a
large variety of disciplines across Switzerland, and the establishment of the
University of Zurich Technology Platform LiRI (Linguistic Research
Infrastructure), we seek to hire 3 data science consultants specialized in
statistical modeling at the University of Zurich.

One of the positions is placed in a data science task force at the NCCR's
headquarters in Zurich in co-affiliation with LiRI. The other two positions
are placed in the LiRI tech team in Zurich and will cooperate closely with the
NCCR task force. All three will work intensively with researchers across the
entire network of the NCCR and language scientists in Switzerland more
broadly. Conditions permitting, this may involve also spending limited periods
of time in labs outside Zurich. The positions are initially limited for a
period of two years with the possibility of extension and a permanent
contract.

Your responsibilities:
The data science consultants will support the different research groups of the
NCCR with all types of statistical tasks, ranging from design of experiments
and observational studies to development of new statistical methodologies.
The successful candidates are expected to actively interact with other data
science platforms in Switzerland, e.g. at the ETH Zurich and the Swiss Data
Science Centre, as well as with partners in industry (e.g. the Google Research
Natural Language Processing Group in Zurich).

Ideal candidates have an MSc or PhD degree in statistics or data science and
profound domain knowledge in language science, or a degree in language science
and strong expertise in data science/statistics, are able to quickly immerse
in different interdisciplinary research topics, and are able to efficiently
communicate with scientists working on language from a large variety of
perspectives and/or on animal communication.

The NCCR and LiRI place great emphasis on teamwork and on multidisciplinary
perspectives. Excellent communication and collaboration skills are essential.
