Senior Lecturer in English Specialising in Linguistics

Tasks:
The appointment includes teaching, supervision and examination in English,
specialising in linguistics at first- and second-cycle levels, within
freestanding courses such as within the Teacher Education Programme (e.g.
VFU), both on campus and online. Course development and tasks of an
administrative nature are also part of this appointment, such as course
coordination. The applicant is expected to contribute to the activities of the
subject area and the Department as a whole, which requires a good ability to
cooperate with others, and may also involve teaching in a range of courses and
study programmes in the subject area. Research may also be included in the
post and the applicant is expected to actively seek research funding from
leading Swedish and international research funding bodies. The Department
assumes that the successful applicant will be able to be present on campus
frequently, since much of the work at the Department is in teaching groups.

Eligibility Criteria:
Eligibility for appointment as a lecturer is specified in the Higher Education
Ordinance Chapter 4 Sections 3–4 and in the Appointments Procedure for
Teachers at the University of Gothenburg. In order to be considered for the
position, the applicant must hold a doctoral degree in English or in another
subject area that the employer deems relevant.

Applicant Assessment Criteria:
Assessment criteria for appointment as a lecturer are specified in the Higher
Education Ordinance Chapter 4 Sections 3–4 and in the Appointments Procedure
for Teachers at the University of Gothenburg.

To be eligible for the appointment, the applicant must hold a Degree of Doctor
(PhD) in the subject area English or other subject area relevant to the
appointment. In the selection process, documented qualifications in the
following areas will be taken into account in particular: 
- Documented experience and expertise in teaching and supervision in
linguistics
- Scholarly qualifications in linguistics, which will be assessed in relation
to their degree of originality and strength of support within the
international scholarly community 
- Experience of supervision and examination in the field of linguistics at
first- and second-cycle levels
- Ability to teach in both English and Swedish
- Management and administration of teaching (e.g. course coordination) 
- Qualifications related to collaborations with the surrounding society
- Qualifications in teaching and learning in higher education.

The work also requires a good ability to cooperate with others and
flexibility. Useful additional qualifications are a qualification in teacher
education (Swedish Bachelor of Arts in Education) and experience of teaching
in teacher education courses, including experience of visits and assessment of
placements (VFU courses). Successful applications for external funding are
also considered a merit. An interview and test lecture will also be used as
assessment criteria. References provided by the applicant may also be checked.
