Description:

The Department of Computational Linguistics at the Heinrich-Heine-Universität
Düsseldorf, Germany, invites applications for a three-year PhD position in
Linguistics/Computational Linguistics (federal German pay scale TV-L E13 65%).
The position is to be filled as soon as possible.

The candidate will pursue a PhD project as part of the research project
"Coercion and Copredication as Flexible Frame Composition" lead by Prof. Dr.
Laura Kallmeyer and Dr. Rainer Osswald. The project is funded by the German
Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG); see
https://gepris.dfg.de/gepris/projekt/440934416?language=en for a short summary
of the project.

Possible topics for a PhD thesis include the corpus-based analysis of inherent
polysemy and coercion and copredication constructions, the interplay between
inherent polysemy and quantification, and the frame-semantic modeling and
implementation of coercion and copredication phenomena.

Job requirements and qualifications:
- Master's degree in Linguistics or Computational Linguistics
- Familiarity with methods of formal and computational semantics
- Proficiency of English (knowledge of German is not a prerequisite)
- Good programming skills
