Special Issue of Language Testing, 2022
Local Tests, Local Contexts

Co-editors:
Slobodanka Dimova, Xun Yan, and April Ginther

A special issue of Language Testing, which is to appear in 2022, will be
dedicated to Local Tests, Local Contexts. This issue will focus on research
related to local language testing practice that exists in the intermediate
space between large-scale, international testing and classroom assessment.
Local language tests display at least two of the following distinguishing
features: 1) utilize local resources for test development and implementation,
2) include bottom-up adaptation of local standards and policies, 3) reflect
the local context in task design, and 4) have local impact.

The range of contextual factors and unique assessment issues that the proposed
articles address should largely fall under the following topics:
- Local assessment practices vs. global assessment traditions
- Localized impact and washback
- Curriculum-test congruence
- Placement, diagnosis, and exit testing
- Technology and accessibility
- Local policy
- Language assessment literacy
- Stakeholder involvement in test design

Abstracts for the proposed articles should describe previously empirically or
conceptually based unpublished work that includes implications for language
testing professionals. Please send a 1,000-word extended abstract to
slobodanka.dimova at hum.ku.dk (cc xunyan at illinois.edu and aginther at purdue.edu).

The abstract should include the following:
- name, title, affiliation, and contact information of the author(s)
- title of the paper
- research questions
- methodology (participants, data collection, and data analysis)
- significance of the findings or contribution of the study to the field
- for each author, 50-word biographical statement

The deadline for submission of the extended abstracts is October 31, 2020.
Authors who are invited to submit full papers will be notified by November 15,
2020.

The deadline for submission of full papers for review is February 15, 2021.
