Subject: Call for a Chapter Proposal [revised timeline]

Gamification of education, using game mechanics for educational purposes, is a
new exciting direction that promotes deeper engagement and reduces performance
anxiety.

We invite chapter proposals for an edited collection "Games for students of
linguistics”. The collection aims to bring together games that would help
students of linguistics to develop and practice the fundamental concepts in
Phonetics & Phonology, Syntax & Morphology, and Semantics & Pragmatics.
Examples of the games and gamified activities might include coloring the
anatomical structure of the vocal tract, IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet)
bingo, crosswords with the terminology from your discipline, card games, etc.
The games should be designed and piloted with undergraduate students of
linguistics at the university level prior to submission.

Proposals should not exceed 500 words and include the following:

Brief description of the game
The name of the course, in which the game was used
A few sentences about the skills that the game enhances

Submissions to this edited collection will be prioritized in editorial
processing, reviewing, and publication. Upon acceptance of a chapter proposal,
guidelines for preparing final chapters will be provided. The final chapter
will consist of the actual game materials – graphics, cards, worksheets, etc.,
and the instructions on how to play. Chapters must be original work and not
under review for publication elsewhere.

Deadlines:

Proposal submission: May 28, 2021
Notification of provisional acceptance of proposals: June 31, 2021
Submission of the book proposal to a publisher: August 2021
Anticipated confirmation of chapter inclusion (subject to publisher’s
response): October 2021
Anticipated deadline for full chapters: February 2022
Anticipated publication of the book: Mar 2023

Proposals should be submitted to Vita V. Kogan, Department of Modern Language
and Linguistics, the University of Kent, UK. Email: v.kogan at kent.ac.uk
