Meeting Description:

TISLR 14 will be held at the National Museum of Ethnology (MINPAKU) in Japan.
To commemorate the first TISLR to be held in Asia, we are going to include a
panel discussion of sign language linguists doing research in Asia. This
conference will be held online and on-site in parallel due to the spread of
COVID-19. We look forward to your active participation.

Call for Papers: 

TISLR 14 invites unpublished research from any theoretical perspective that
addresses sign languages. Keynote presentations, organized sessions, and
poster sessions will be included on such topics as:
– phonetics and phonology of sign languages
– prosody of sign languages
– morphology of sign languages
– syntax of sign languages
– semantics and pragmatics of sign languages
– the emergence of sign languages in a historical context
– sign language acquisition in L1/L2 environments
– bilingualism and multilingualism of sign languages
– sociolinguistic variation and change in sign languages-
– sign language discourse analysis
– sign linguistic ethnography  
– sign linguistic anthropology
– sign language and education
– applied sign linguistics
– neurolinguistics/psycholinguistics of sign languages
– sign language and artistic endeavors (including poetry and literature)
– computational modelling, recognition, and synthesis of sign languages
– sign language documentation/corpus linguistics
– the relationship between sign language and gesture

The program will have no parallel sessions. We plan to have approx. 30
signed/spoken presentations (20 minutes and 10 minutes discussion) and three
poster sessions.

Submission of papers: 
Abstracts can be submitted in one of the following languages: Japanese Sign
Language, American Sign Language, International Sign and English. Please note
that the abstracts must not be anonymized. Written abstracts should include
the name(s) of the author(s) following the title. Signed abstracts should
start with the name(s) of the author(s). The written abstract must not be
longer than two pages (including tables, examples, and references), in
12-point type, single-line spacing and 2,5 cm margins. The signed abstract
must not be significantly longer than 5 minutes. There is a maximum of 3
submissions per author, either as single author or joint co-author.

Important dates:
April 30, 2021: The conference web site and EasyChair for submission of
abstracts are currently scheduled to be available
Sept 30, 2021: Deadline for submission
Feb 28, 2022: Notification of acceptance

Call for papers : 5 Minutes SIGNopsis

The Five Minute SIGNopsis is a contest at TISLR 14 during which 10 selected
junior sign language linguists will present their research in a concise,
informative, and engaging way. Each presenter will prepare a five-minute video
in which they introduce a topic of their choosing in a lively, accessible
manner using any visual aids they deem helpful. The presentations should be
directed at a lay audience and should present an interesting piece of data,
exciting new ideas, new takes on existing theories and/or linguistic-related
engagements in Deaf communities.

Ph.D. students and Early Career Researchers (up to 5 years after their degree)
are highly encouraged to submit an abstract. The abstract is to be prepared in
any sign language with English captions.

October 20, 2021: Deadline for submission for 5-minute SIGNopsis
March 31, 2022: Notification of acceptance
