Subject: Enciclopédia das Línguas Arawak, acrescida de seis novas línguas e dois bancos de dados

The eminent Brazilian linguist of French origin, Henri RAMIREZ, published a
new comprehensive book on Arawakan languages. It is Enciclopédia das Línguas
Arawak, acrescida de seis novas línguas e dois bancos de dados, Curitiba
(Brazil): Editora CRV, 4 volumes, 1136 pages, 2020 (published at the end of
March 2021, as a paper edition and as an e-book.

Volume I contains a new version of his Baniwa-Koripako grammar of 2001.

Volume II is about the Japurá-Colombia subgroup. It contains a new
classification of the Arawakan family as well as a synchronic and diachronic
of the languages of this subgroup.

Volume III contains the synchrony and diachrony of the Central subgroup, the
subgroup between the Middle Rio Negro and the Upper Orinoco, the
Amazon-Antillean subgroup, the so-called Chamicuro-Amuesha subgroup, the
highly interesting Bolivian subgroup, the Purus, the Kampa, the Xaray-Xingu
subgroups and Palikur. Many extinct languages are described and tentatively
classified, the situation of some ghost-languages is discussed.

Volume IV contains two attachments, first an etymological dictionary of
Japurá-Columbia Arawak, second word lists of all mentioned Arawak languages
and references.

This important work should have a wide distribution among all specialists of
this great language family of Lowland South America.
