Subject: Linguistic and Philosophical Thoughts about Reference

 
The DTLLG (Instituto de Lingüística-FHCE/UdelaR-Uruguay) is pleased to invite
you to the Symposium “Linguistic and Philosophical Thoughts about Reference”,
which will be held online, via zoom, the 10th of September of 2021 from 11:00
to 16:00 (GMT-3).

The Symposium will have 4 questions that will be answered by a philosopher, a
linguist, and commented by a linguist or a philosopher. Each question will
have an hour slot: 15-20 minutes for the philosopher to answer, 15-20 minutes
for the linguist to answer, 10 minutes for comments, and 10 to 20 minutes for
questions.
The schedule will be as follows:

11-12 am:
1) What is reference?
Arthur Sullivan from Memorial University (Canada), and Louise McNally from
Univ. Pompeu Fabra (Spain). Comments by: Eduarda Calado from IIF/SADAF/CONICET
(Argentina).

12am-13 pm:
2) Is there reference to the abstract?
Marco Ruffino from Univ. Estad. de Campinas (Brazil), and Friederike Moltmann
from Centre Nationale de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS). Comments by: Ana
Clara Polakof, from Universidad de la República/SNI (Uruguay).

13-14pm: break

14pm-15pm:
3) Is there sentential reference?
Kepa Korta from Univ. of the Basque Country (Spain), and Christopher Potts
from Stanford University (USA). Comments by: Fernando Carranza, from
Universidad de Buenos Aires/Conicet (Argentina).

15pm-16pm:
4) Is there reference to time?
Maria de Ponte from Univ. of the Basque Country (Spain), and Brenda Laca from
Univ. de la República (Uruguay). Comments by: David Rey, from Universidad del
Valle (Colombia).

This activity has the support of the Linguistics Directive, and of Facultad de
Humanidades y Ciencias de la Educación (UdelaR). It is also organized as a
part of the research project FCE_3_2018_1_148810, and the research group from
CSIC (UdelaR) “Fundamentos Filosóficos de la Lingüística” (group 880964). More
