A linguistic obituary of a key player in Canadian English. Katherine Barber
was indeed "Canada's Word Lady". This obituary shows both her achievements and
highlights the sometimes impossible constraints in the field, including its
unintended, yet perhaps inevitable, consequences. It also argues for a new
Dictionary of Canadian English, perhaps in Katherine's memory. Full obit -
