Description:

The Department of Language Studies at the University of Toronto Mississauga
invites applications for a full-time teaching stream position in the area of
General Linguistics with a specialization in Chinese Linguistics. The
appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream with
an expected start date of July 1, 2022, or shortly thereafter.
 
Applicants must have earned a PhD in linguistics, Chinese linguistics, or a
related area by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter, with a
demonstrated record of excellence in teaching. Applicants must have native or
near-native proficiency in Chinese and the demonstrated ability to
successfully work in an English-medium academic context. We seek candidates
whose teaching interests complement and enhance our existing departmental
strengths. Candidates must have teaching expertise in a degree granting
program at the undergraduate program level, including preparation and delivery
of both large and small enrolment courses, curriculum development, and
development of online material/lectures. Additionally, candidates must possess
a demonstrated commitment to excellent pedagogical practices and a
demonstrated interest in teaching-related scholarly activities.
 
Responsibilities include teaching large and small undergraduate courses in
general linguistics as well as more advanced undergraduate courses in Chinese
linguistics. Scholarly activities for this position include work in the areas
of teaching methodologies and practice, curriculum development and
implementation, and scholarship related to undergraduate teaching and learning
or discipline-based scholarship related to Chinese linguistics. We seek
creative and innovative candidates who will take a leadership role in the area
of pedagogy. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to
undergraduate teaching, outreach, and collaboration with other faculty
members.
 
Evidence of excellence in teaching and pedagogical inquiry can be demonstrated
through teaching accomplishments, awards and accolades, publications and/or
presentations at significant conferences, the teaching dossier submitted as
part of the application including a strong teaching statement, pedagogically
informed syllabi and course materials, and outstanding teaching evaluations,
as well as strong letters of reference from referees of high standing.
