Description:

UCLA Linguistics Department Faculty Position in Field Linguistics

University of California Los Angeles

Requisition Number: JPF06791

The UCLA Department of Linguistics seeks to fill a ladder faculty position
(tenured or tenure-track), starting July 1, 2022, for a specialist in field
linguistics. Candidates whose research bears on phonological theory are
especially welcome. The ideal candidate will be both strong in linguistic
theory and analysis and expert in modern methods of field data collection,
organization, and storage, and will have experience working in partnership
with native speaker communities. We anticipate making an appointment at the
Assistant or Associate Professor level, but applications from strongly
qualified senior candidates are welcome.

Ph.D. is required before date of hire. In general, candidates should have an
outstanding record in research and teaching; candidates for an entry-level
appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor should show great potential for
outstanding research and teaching.

The teaching load is normally four courses per year, and will include graduate
and undergraduate courses as well as graduate student advising. Faculty
members also customarily participate in informal seminars attended by graduate
students and other faculty members working in their subfield. Salary will be
commensurate with education and experience.

Applications should be submitted using the UCLA academic job application site;
see the application URL below. Applicants should provide a brief cover letter;
curriculum vitae; a research statement; three representative research papers;
a description of teaching philosophy; an Equity, diversity and inclusion
Statement describing your past, present, and future (planned) contributions to
equity, diversity, and inclusion (see below for more info); and course
evaluations and/or other material bearing on their teaching record. We also
request that you upload to the site anonymized copies of your research
samples; it is not necessary to expunge all mentions of your name in the text,
but please remove or obscure your name where it is clearly identified as the
author, such as the front page, top-of-page headers, and explicit
self-citations (“As I argued in…”) in the text. Applicants should request
three letters of recommendation to be uploaded to the application site.
Applications are due November 1, 2021. Preliminary interviews will be
conducted online in late November. For further information about the position
please contact the Search Committee at the contact email below; for help with
the application process please contact the staff member listed below.
Application materials must be submitted through the UC Recruit system website
at the application link below.
