Research: 
Your research fits the profile of the research group on Translation and
Technology, which focuses on the use and evaluation of translation and
interpreting technology (translation software, machine translation,
computer-assisted interpreting and remote interpreting). The use of the
various technological tools in specialised translation and during
interpretation is the research focus in this group, where the efficiency of
the translation and interpreting process and the quality of the translation
products and interpretation services are assessed. Adopted approaches in this
research group can be both qualitative and quantitative and are complemented
by research methods in corpus and variational linguistics.

Please note that it is recommended that your research also makes a good fit
(in terms of topics and methods) with the ongoing research on language and
technology at the Kulak Kortrijk campus (e.g. within ITEC, an imec research
group of KU Leuven, https://itec.kuleuven-kulak.be/).

You will strive for excellence in your scholarly research: publish at the
highest academic level, initiate national and international collaboration for
and within the research group and help to promote and further develop such
collaboration.

You are capable of obtaining competitive funding, and of attracting and
supervising doctoral students.

You will see to the valorisation of your research.

Education: 
You will provide high-quality teaching as part of the Applied Linguistics
option in the Bachelor's programme of Linguistics and Literature at the Kulak
Kortrijk Campus and in the Master's programme of Translation and/or
Interpreting at the Antwerp Campus. You will also contribute to the
university's pedagogical project by supervising Bachelor's and Master's
theses.

You will develop your teaching in accordance with the KU Leuven vision on
pro-active, research-based instruction and you will make use of the
opportunities offered by the faculty and the university to further
professionalise your teaching.

The teaching duties require an immediate and thorough knowledge of Dutch, so
we are looking for someone with a native or near native level of Dutch. 

Your teaching duties, which will amount to about 20 ECTS, includes the
following subjects at the outset: 

For the Applied Linguistics option in the Bachelor's programme of Linguistics
and Literature:
 - Vertaal- en tolkwetenschap (3 stp – ba1)
 - Tekstwetenschap (3stp - ba1)
 - Taal- en vertaaltechnologie (4 stp - ba2)
 - Tekstontwerp en -redactie (4 stp - ba2)

In the Master's programmes in Translation and/or Interpreting, you will teach
one or more courses (the exact nature of which is yet to be determined) in the
fields of translation and/or interpreting technology.

Your teaching assignment will initially be at the faculty’s Kulak Kortrijk
Campus, with a limited assignment at the Antwerp Campus. You should be
prepared to carry out, where appropriate, teaching assignments at other
campuses. 

Service: 
You are willing to take on tasks of internal and external, academic and other
types of services, within the university, the faculty, the research group and
the broader community. 

You are expected to participate in the provision of academic services and to
take on managerial tasks within the faculty.
