Description:

As a speech scientist, you will join our international Languages Development
team, improving, maintaining, and extending our extensive language portfolio,
which is a crucial part of Cerence's leading text-to-speech technology and
applications. We offer an international, stimulating and friendly environment
and the opportunity to contribute to speech technology that today powers most
cars worldwide in over 60 languages.

You will work on linguistic processing components such as models, data, and
rules for text normalization, morphological and syntactic analysis, phonetic
transcription, and prosody prediction. You will push the quality of our
technology in various languages by a smart combination of a wide range of
techniques including machine learning, automated or crowdsourced large-scale
data processing, grammars and linguistic theories, pattern matching, and
lexical. Your responsibilities will also include occasional development of
specialized tools and metrics to achieve and measure language development
targets.

Required skills:
 - Computational linguistics or equivalent
 - Data-driven modeling, large-scale data processing, corpus analysis
techniques
 - Combining strong analytical and creative skills with problem-solving
attitude
 - Ability to collaborate effectively in small teams, as well as to plan and
execute work on an individual basis
 - Excellent communication skills
 - Tools development in Python, Lua or similar high-level programming language
 - Working accurately and efficiently
 - Native standard German or French speaker.

Preferred skills:
 - Ability to understand architecture and design rationales of existing large
complex systems through targeted questions, self-study, experimentation and
reverse engineering.
 - Mathematics background, solid understanding of machine learning theory and
frameworks
 - Background on linguistic theories of syntax, morphology, prosody, phonetics
and phonology
 - Experience with one or more version control systems (e.g. Mercurial, Git)
 - Experience with a data processing and/or neural modeling framework (e.g. R,
matlab/octave, numpy, scipy, Keras, TensorFlow, ...)
 - Education: MSc or PhD degree in computational linguistics, computer
science, AI or similar
