Linguistic Field(s): Language Acquisition

Call Deadline: 28-Jan-2022

Meeting Description:

In this year’s conference, Language, Culture, and Globalization:
Transdisciplinary Perspectives, we would like to draw attention to the role of
culture in language development and education in the current era of
globalization, characterized by increased transnational migration and use of
communication technologies that allow for intercultural exchanges. We also
recognize that while language and culture have been inextricably linked in
language studies, this relationship has been framed and addressed from
different theoretical and methodological perspectives. We invite presenters to
explore the connection between language and culture in SLA and other areas of
language studies, in a world where the local and global increasingly intersect
and shape each other and give rise to a number of issues related to language
learning and use.

Call for Proposals:

The Annual Second Language Acquisition (SLA) Graduate Student Symposium brings
together graduate students and scholars working with SLA and other areas of
language studies. We invite proposals for research papers and posters
featuring a broad range of theoretical and methodological approaches and
topics relevant to the theme of our conference. Proposals may include content
from pilot studies and ongoing projects in addition to completed projects. We
offer participants the opportunity to give their presentations online as well
as in person in order to accommodate students, scholars, and educators both
domestic and international.

Dr. Manuela Wagner (University of Connecticut)

Plenary speaker
Dr. Pamela Wesely (University of Iowa)

proposal for a paper presentation, you will be able to indicate the modality
for which you are submitting: in-person or online. Online paper presentations
will be done synchronously via Zoom. We encourage proposals for in-person
