Description:

The Department of Linguistics at the University of Illinois at
Urbana-Champaign invites applications for a full-time position of Lecturer/
Instructor of Persian with a start date of August 16, 2021. Renewal of the
position is contingent on availability of funding, strong performance reviews
and healthy enrollments in classes.

The successful candidate will teach the equivalent of three courses per
semester. Duties include grading, holding office hours, attending meetings,
planning and overseeing extra-curricular activities, organizing special events
(such as languages days, film nights, conversation tables), and promoting the
program through flyers and informational sessions, as applicable. Candidates
with a PhD in hand will be considered as a Lecturer. Candidates who are ABD or
hold a Master’s degree level will be considered as an Instructor. Professional
level competence in both Persian and English is required. Experience in
language teaching and at least a Master’s degree are required. A
specialization in Persian or experience with teaching Persian as a foreign
language, particularly at university level is required. Candidates with
evidence of successful teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels will
be given preference.

This is a full-time 9-month appointment, non-tenure track position, renewable
yearly contingent on availability of funding, strong performance reviews and
healthy enrollments in classes. The expected start date is August 16, 2021.
Salary is commensurate with experience.
