Call Deadline: 20-Feb-2021

Meeting Description:

The Institute of Linguistics, School of English at the University of Silesia
is pleased to announce the 32nd International Conference on Foreign and Second
Language Acquisition (ICFSLA). As it has been for over thirty years now, this
conference focuses on research in second language acquisition and foreign
language learning, relating to different aspects of both the teaching and
learning of second/foreign languages. The main topic of the upcoming 2020
conference is: Narratives of Success and Failure: Stories from Foreign
Language Teachers and Learners. The theme itself is self-explanatory, needing
little further elaboration. We imagine that research interests relating to
perceptions of what constitutes success and failure in a second/foreign
language context from the perspective of a teacher and/or a learner (as well
as the factors determining those) will constitute the major focus of the
presentations. In addition to the leading theme, we also accept selected
proposals in other areas of SLA research of interest to our conference
participants for our varia sessions. We would like to continue with an
academic publishers´ session for less experienced scholars (but not only!),
where they can get updated information on selected journals directly from
their editors and can also receive advice and guidance on how to prepare their
articles to fulfil the demands of an academic journal to be accepted for
publication.

Call for Papers:

Traditionally, in addition to the leading theme, we also accept selected
proposals in other areas of SLA research of interest to our conference
participants for our various sessions. Please do not hesitate to consider
submitting the proposal even if it does not follow the main theme of the
conference (we would like to make it clear that the choice of the topic – as
long as it relates to SLA in some way, is not the criterion for the acceptance
of the proposed abstract. Our conference participants are interested in
different areas of SLA research).

Paper abstracts, together with your registration form and your data (excel
database) should be sent before the 20 February 2021 to our e-mail address:
szczyrk2021 at gmail.com.

Please send your abstract again even if it was accepted last year.

You will be notified about acceptance by 1 March.

The plenary talks will be given by:
 - Prof. Christine Gkonou (University of Essex, Colchester)
 - Prof. Hanna Komorowska (University of Social Sciences and Humanities,
Warsaw)
 - Prof. Agnieszka Otwinowska- Kasztelanic (Warsaw University, Warsaw)
 - Prof. Simone Pfenninger (University of Salzburg, Salzburg)
 - Prof. David Singleton (Professor Emeritus, Trinity College, Dublin)
