Job Title: Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Assistant Professor in English Language and Linguistics
Job Rank: Rank Open

Specialty Areas: Applied Linguistics

Required Language(s): English (eng)

Description:

The English Language Centre (ELC) of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) is
currently looking to fill the following vacancy in the Faculty of Arts and
Humanities (FAH):

Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Assistant Professor (Ref. No.: FAH-M37)

Responsibilities will include teaching a range of courses on the English
language and English for Academic Purposes at undergraduate and postgraduate
levels; contributing to curriculum development and materials design, as well
as various other activities related to service as well as research.

The University of Saint Joseph is a major international university in Macao,
with students from more than 40 different countries, and staff of 20-plus
nationalities. It is also an English-medium university where the English
language serves a range of diverse needs as a lingua franca in a multicultural
academic community.

The English Language Centre (ELC) intends to become a leading centre in the
Asian region for teaching and research on English for Academic Purposes and
English-medium instruction (EMI), as well as other areas of English
linguistics and sociolinguistics.

We would welcome applications for the post from suitably-qualified candidates
who are interested in joining a creative and energetic team of teachers led by
Professor Kingsley Bolton, who has recently joined USJ as Professor of English
Linguistics and Director of the English Language Centre.

The rank of appointment will depend on the documented experience and
qualifications of the successful applicant to this post.

For Lecturer rank, applicants should have a Master’s degree in Applied
Linguistics, TESOL, or a closely-related field. They should also have a strong
background in teaching English for Academic Purposes, or a cognate area of
applied English linguistics.

For Senior Lecturer/Assistant Professor rank, applicants ideally should have
completed a PhD thesis in a relevant area of scholarship, and should already
have evidence of a research pipeline, as well as publications in international
journals.

The post offers exciting possibilities for developing teaching and research
expertise in a multicultural international university, with excellent
opportunities for mentorship and professional development with particular
relevance to EMI higher education in the Asian region and worldwide.

We would particularly welcome applications from freshly-qualified
postgraduates, who are seriously embarking upon academic careers, and who wish
to develop their teaching and research expertise.
