The Centre for Linguistic Research at the University of Aberdeen is proud to
invite you to the following scheduled Zoom meeting.

Language regard in the North East of Scotland: when perceptions challenge
notions of solidarity and status
Dr Dawn Leslie, University of Aberdeen

In this talk I will present aspects of the perceptual dialectology research I
have been conducting in the North East of Scotland. The talk will focus on the
notions of solidarity and status and how the perceptions of North East
speakers towards the linguistic complexities of the region seem to challenge
the idea of ‘standardness’ being exclusively synonymous with prestige.
