Colorful concepts from a linguistic point of view

What kind of color words idioms, composites, comparisons, abstract and
concrete collocations do speakers and writers use to talk and write about
events, feelings, structures, processes? 

What forms and functions do color adjectives have in language systems and
where, in which spaces, do colors refer? What do color adjectives do for the
organization of concepts? Are color adjectives replaceable by non-color
adjectives? Do color adjectives and collocations organize concepts scalarly or
categorically? Do color adjectives stand up to language comparison? Which
color adjectives function adverbially in which way? In what way do color words
intensify and/or identify concepts? What kind of lexemes act as implicit color
components of analytic sentences?

What role do complementary and non-complementary color compositions play in
advertising and media design? Can we rely on color perceptions and their
interpretations? What kind of assignments in the linking of colors and
feelings, colors and structures, colors and events, colors and processes are
there? Which geometric, spatial and arithmetic regularities in the linking of
colors and events, colors and feelings, colors and structures, colors and
processes do speakers and writers use? 

The Zoom (online) workshop languages are English and German. The Zoom workshop
is scheduled for September 9-10, 2021. A peer-reviewed publication of the
contributions is planned (a thematic issue of Linguistik online is booked).

Call for Papers: 

The workshop welcomes morphosyntactic, semantic, and/or pragmatic analyses of
color expressions as well as literary, cultural, and corpus-linguistic
analyses of concepts of color. Contributions may focus on individual phenomena
or discourses and may be synchronic or diachronic, they can be dedicated to a
single language or to language comparison. 

Please send a paper proposal in the form of an abstract (max. 300 words
excluding references) by April 10, 2021 to katharina.mucha at ruhr-uni-bochum.de.
