Description:

The Pennsylvania State University, College of the Liberal Arts, invites
applications and nominations for the position of Head of the Department of
Applied Linguistics. The position is to be filled at the rank of tenured
Associate Professor or Professor, with an anticipated start date fall of 2021,
with flexibility.

Applicants should have scholarly credentials commensurate with a senior
appointment at a major research university, demonstrate administrative
experience or evidence of administrative potential, have the ability to manage
the on-going grant and development activities of the department, and the
flexibility to lead a multi-disciplinary unit with existing and potential
partnerships with multiple graduate programs across the college. The Dean is
prepared to make investments commensurate with maintaining and improving the
department's national and international reputation. 

Applicants may have joint appointments in other units in the College of the
Liberal Arts. A named professorship is possible as commensurate with the
applicant's credentials and standing in the field. 

A Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics, or a closely related field is required. In
addition, successful candidates must either have demonstrated a commitment to
building an inclusive, equitable, and diverse campus community, or describe
one or more ways they would envision doing so, given the opportunity.

Candidates for Professor should have an outstanding publication record, a
commitment to securing external funding, and a track record of excellence in
teaching and mentoring students. Duties will involve leading the Department of
Applied Linguistics, which includes a combination of administrative duties,
teaching and research, based on the candidate's qualifications. Candidates for
Associate Professor should have a significant publication record, a commitment
to securing external funding, and a track record of excellence in teaching and
mentoring students. Duties will involve leading the Department of Applied
Linguistics, which includes a combination of administrative duties, teaching
and research, based on the candidate's qualifications.
