Call Deadline: 18-Jan-2021

Meeting Description:

With the rapid transfer to an entirely new instruction model, many K-12
teachers nationwide have been facing multiple challenges finding the right
strategies and approaches to deliver content while maintaining rigor and
equity in their instruction. Moving to the online format has been especially
challenging for those who support and serve multilingual learners. Teachers
are grappling with providing effective differentiation and scaffolding,
ensuring equal student participation, facilitating group work, and other
pedagogical tasks. Still, it has also opened up a wide window of
opportunities as well as offered new perspectives on the possible future
trends in public education.

Now, it is time we harness our newly developed expertise and skills, come
together, and share what we have learned throughout this unusual period for
the K-12 system. We invite you to join us on Saturday, February 20th, 2021, to
offer your successful strategies and tactics in teaching the English
Language/multilingual Learners online and explore promising virtual
instruction approaches in a language-learning context. The participants will
share their experiences in adapting instruction to meet students’ needs in an
online setting and reimagining their pedagogical practices to satisfy the
requirements of the current learning environment.

Call for Participation:

The CoT February 2021 seeks 10-minute practical demo lessons addressing this
year's theme - Teaching Online in K-12.

The presentation should focus on one of the online aspects of instructing
ELLs/MLLs in the online environment and may address (but is not limited to)
the following components of the lesson sequences:

Scaffolding and Differentiation:
- managing different language levels in one content area class;

Facilitating group work:
- mediating student-student interactions,
- transitioning between whole-class and small group instruction;

Giving every student a voice:
- making sure we are hearing from everyone,
- translaguaging in online settings.
