Applications are invited for Department of Linguistics and Modern Languages
Research Assistant Professors (Ref. 210001BP) (Closing date: July 31, 2021)

The Department of Linguistics and Modern Languages is a young and vibrant
department, devoted to the study of language and mind, with strengths in
theoretical linguistics, language acquisition, bilingualism, sign linguistics
and neurolinguistics. The Department is seeking two linguists who have
expertise specializing in the above-mentioned areas. The appointments will be
at the rank of Research Assistant Professor.

The Department is particularly interested in applicants whose research has a
strong grounding in linguistic theory and who employ conventional and/or
contemporary research methods to address core issues in linguistics.
Applicants whose research crosses multiple areas of linguistics and cognate
areas are especially welcomed.

Applicants should have:
- A PhD degree in linguistics;
- Strong commitment to excellence in research; and
- A record of excellence in research in the relevant field.

The Department collaborates closely with other departments and research units
across the University. State-of-the-art research facilities (e.g., EEG
systems, sound chambers, etc.) are available.

The primary medium of instruction of the Department is English, for both
undergraduate and postgraduate classes. 

The appointees will:
- Develop research in his/her areas of expertise;
- Teach undergraduate and postgraduate linguistics courses;
- Supervise projects and theses of undergraduate, MA, MPhil and PhD students;
and
- Undertake administrative duties

Appointments will initially be made on contract basis for up to three years
commencing January 2022 or as early as possible, renewable subject to
performance, funding and mutual agreement.
