Full Title: IRAAL 2020/1 Annual Conference

Date: 26-Nov-2021 - 27-Nov-2021
Location: Dublin & Online, Ireland
Contact Person: Stephen Lucek
Meeting Email: iraal2020 at ucd.ie

Linguistic Field(s): Applied Linguistics; General Linguistics

Call Deadline: 15-Jul-2021

Meeting Description:

The Irish Association for Applied Linguistics (IRAAL) hosts an annual
conference that showcases the best in Applied Linguistics research and
practice in Ireland and beyond. The Covid-19 pandemic forced us to postpone
the 2020 conference and in the interests of public health and safety, the
IRAAL 2020 Conference Organising Committee (now the 2021 Conference Organising
Committee) have decided to hold our conference online over two half days, on
the morning (Dublin time) of Friday November 26 and the afternoon (Dublin
time) of Saturday November 27.

The Irish Association of Applied Linguistics (IRAAL) annual conference brings
together researchers in all areas of linguistics working in Ireland or
internationally. The theme of this year’s conference is ‘Applying Linguistics
in the 21st Century’.

This theme was chosen to represent the changing face of Applied Linguistics in
Ireland and abroad. Applied Linguistics is sometimes understood as being
restricted to language learning and teaching, but as the Covid-19 pandemic has
taught us, we are doing much more than teaching and learning languages.
Through discussions, we can learn much more about the globalisation of
language learning and how we are reimagining the traditional paradigms of
Applied Linguistics. The 2021 IRAAL Annual Conference will reflect the
broadness of our experiences and the myriad areas of cognate disciplines to
which we contribute. In this spirit, the Organising Committee wishes to invite
you to the 2021 IRAAL Annual Conference.
