Linguistic Field(s): Discourse Analysis; General Linguistics; Historical Linguistics; Linguistic Theories; Text/Corpus Linguistics

Language Family(ies): Romance
Meeting Description:

Discourse Traditions are a defining model of contemporary Romance studies,
particularly in the field of linguistic variation and change. In international
linguistic research, however, this approach competes with other approaches,
such as corpus linguistics, text linguistics or discourse analysis, which deal
with the textual conditions of language production and language change. There
are a variety of approaches that focus on discourse phenomena from different
perspectives and emphasize the importance of the discursive level within a
comprehensively conceived linguistics. Our workshop aims to discuss the
contributions of these different approaches to the investigation of issues in
the field of discourse traditions, and to explore new domains and applications
for discourse traditions research.

Participants of the workshop include Romance linguists who have contributed
significantly to shaping the notion of discourse traditions in recent years,
as well as international scholars working on related topics and approaches in
the field of historical discourse linguistics and textual studies.
