Description:

The Leibniz-Centre General Linguistics (ZAS) and the Humboldt-Universität zu
Berlin (HU) invite applications for a Full Professorship for “General
Linguistics” (W3-S) at the Faculty of Language, Literature and Humanities,
Department of German Studies and Linguistics combined with the position of
Director of the Leibniz-Centre General Linguistics (ZAS). The position is to
be filled starting October 1, 2022.

The appointment will be made via a joint procedure of the ZAS and HU with a
reduced teaching commitment (amounting to 2 hours per semester week) at HU.
The ZAS is a non-university research institute under the organizational
umbrella of the Geisteswissenschaftliche Zentren Berlin e.V. (GWZ) and a
member of the Leibniz Association

The individual selected to fill the position will lead the ZAS as Scientific
Director. The successful candidate will be thoroughly familiar with the German
and international scientific system and will represent the research of the
Centre both internally and towards the external community, especially at the
interface of science, the general public and public policy.

The scope of the professorship includes the spectrum of General Linguistics,
taking into account modern theoretical modelling and contemporary empirical
methods as represented in the research areas of the ZAS
(https://www.leibniz-zas.de/en/research/research-areas). The desired candidate
is an international leader in the development of general linguistic theory and
methods and has extraordinary innovative potential in developing and
establishing new areas of research. They will represent the discipline of
General Linguistics in research and teaching at the HU and cooperate with the
linguistics professors of the faculty, for instance in collaborative research
programs such as the CRC 1412 "Register". In addition, the successful
candidate is expected to participate in other existing and future research
collaborations in the Berlin/Brandenburg area.

The successful candidate will pursue the programmatic and structural
development of the research areas of the ZAS against the background of the
currently established focus on the integration of basic research and socially
relevant applied perspectives, thus contributing to the long-term success and
thematic development of the research profile of the ZAS. Leadership skills and
experience in managing research institutions or research consortia as well as
in setting up and operating research infrastructure are required, as is
experience in the strategic planning, acquisition and implementation of
national and international research projects and in science management.
