Subject: The Persistence of Patrimonial Varieties of Spanish in the U.S.

Patrimonial varieties of Spanish in the U,S. (those dialects in residence
before the 20th century, such as Isleño Spanish, New Mexican Spanish, Ladino)
have persisted alongside more recent varieties, sometimes helped by immigrant
communities and sometimes in spite of conflicting perceptions. How do
patrimonial communities survive and thrive? What linguistic and cultural
elements are essential to their identities? I'm looking for scholars who would
like to contribute their research to a thematic anthology about the
perseverance of traditional Spanish-speaking communities.

Please contact Felice Coles fcoles at olemiss.edu for more details.
