Call for Papers:

Language encompasses both auditory and visual cues that are highly relevant to
language learning. Infants and toddlers take advantage of the different
sensory perceptual cues, and integrate auditory and visual information while
processing spoken language. COVID-19 has affected human communication through
the pervasive use of masks. This Research Topic aims at promoting innovative
research on the effects of face-masked input on language development. Given
that masks alter the acoustics of speech and block or obscure facial
information, they may deprive the young learner of some of the necessary cues
for language processing at the linguistic, social, interactional, or emotional
levels. We welcome contributions that address the impact of face-masked input
in language development to tackle fundamental issues in the phonetics of
speech cues, in auditory speech processing, in visual and audiovisual language
processing, and typical and atypical language learning.
