Meeting Description:

The Section des sciences du langage et de l’information at the Université de
Lausanne organizes the ’R-atics 7 colloquium in Lausanne (Switzerland) on
November 18-19, 2021. ‘R-atics gathers an international network of researchers
working on different issues concerning r sounds and has been previously
organized in Nijmegen (The Netherlands), Brussels (Belgium), Bozen (Italy),
Grenoble (France), Leeuwarden (The Netherlands), and Paris (France). This is
an international mid-size specific conference that enhances mutual cooperation
in a friendly environment on phonetic, phonological, sociolinguistic and
diachronic aspects of rhotics. The 2021 edition will include, in addition to
the usual themes, a workshop on data collection and analysis of air flow and
air pressure measures.


Call for Papers: 

We invite contributions on any theme concerning rhotic sounds, including but
not limited to: 
- the diversity of r realizations in the world’s languages
- the socio-phonetic aspects of r realizations 
- the production and perception of rhotics in a language or in a language
family
- the phonological status of r sounds
- diachronic aspects of r sounds
- the acquisition of rhotics in L1 and L2
- aspects of corrective phonetics in the pronunciation of r sounds
- phenomena of r sandhi 
 
Anonymous abstracts of 500 words (plus references) should be sent in PDF
format to https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=ratics7 by May 9, 2021
(authors will be notified by July 4). We plan to have only oral communications
(20+10 minutes) in non-parallel sessions. The form of the conference – online
or on site – will be decided depending on the situation. We hope to be able to
hold the meeting on site, but an online solution will be organized if
necessary.
