Linguistic Field(s): Historical Linguistics; Sociolinguistics; Syntax

Meeting Description:

There is a lively tradition of work on syntactic change in sociolinguistics,
and another lively tradition of work on syntactic change in historical corpus
linguistics. At present, however, theorizing in the two traditions has
proceeded in relative isolation. Recent years have also seen a surge in
theoretically-informed work on dialect syntax, adding another dimension to the
picture. This workshop - a one-day event attached to the Diachronic Generative
Syntax conference - aims to stimulate dialogue and explore points of
convergence and divergence between these different approaches.

Program Information:

Workshop keynotes will be given by Sali Tagliamonte and David Willis. You can
find the programme here: http://walkden.space/DiGS2021/workshop.html.
