Meeting Description:

‘Accents’ is an annual conference organized by the Department of English
Language and Applied Linguistics at University of Łódź, Poland. It brings
together researchers and teachers interested in native and non-native accents
of English, approached from a variety of theoretical and/or practical
perspectives. The key issues discussed each year include individual accent
characteristics, the dynamism of accent usage, accent teaching and learning,
and the methods and tools for accent studies. The leitmotif of Accents 2021
revolves around suprasegmental speech analysis and prosodical features that
determine intelligibility as well as varied discourse, in which different
accents are used, acquired and taught.


Call for Papers: 

We invite proposals for papers, workshops and posters related to the main
theme ‘prosody at work’ as well as other issues related to native and
non-native accents of English, including, but not limited to the ones
mentioned below: 
 - pronunciation in discourse
 - suprasegmentals/prosody
 - fluency
 - intelligibility
 - segmental features and accuracy
 - accents in natural environment: World Englishes, immigrant context,
sojourners, etc.
 - accents in varied educational contexts: ESL, EFL, ELF, ESOL, EAP, etc. 
 - speech perception and/or speech production
 - pronunciation teaching, pronunciation instruction and instructed learning
 - native vs. non-native pronunciation teacher
 - pronunciation of English(es) across the world.

Please notice that each author can propose two contributions provided that one
of them is co-authored.  Papers are given 20 minutes followed by 10 minutes
for discussion, workshops will typically have 45 or 90 minute slots.  Please
specify the intended presentation format in your proposal.

The deadline for abstract submission is August 15, 2021. Please send two
copies of an abstract of up to 400 words in word document (excluding
references) to accents at uni.lodz.pl, with the intended format, name and
affiliation written under the title in one copy. The proposals will go through
the process of peer review, after which notifications of acceptance will be
sent out by September 30, 2021. Information on our previous conferences can be
