Subject: Discourse Analysis of Nonsense

I am looking for references on discourse analysis of nonsense. One of my
students is analyzing Twitter data where there are a lot of tweets that do not
contain grammatical sentences but instead what we might describe as gibberish
or a few words or a gif, image or emoji. Her sense is that they are posting
these tweets to take up space or disrupt the conversation about controversial
topics. But I seem to recall reading something years ago about nonsensical
discourse so I wondered if anyone could point me to some literature.

Thanks,
