Description:

Lecturer - Linguistics

The Department of Linguistics at the University of California, Berkeley, is
seeking a two-semester appointment for one lecturer. Duties include teaching 2
courses:
- Ling 55AC, “The American Languages” (for lower division undergraduates), and
- Ling 155AC, “Language in the United States: a Capsule History” (for upper
division undergraduates).

In addition, the duties include holding regular office hours, calculating
grades, advising students, preparing course materials and exams, managing
graduate student instructors, and attending appropriate meetings/orientations,
etc.

UC Lecturers are academic appointees in an organized bargaining unit and are
exclusively represented by American Federation of Teachers - Unit 18.

For those who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents, a legal permit
that allows work in the United States (such as a U.S. visa that allows
employment) is required by the start date of the position. The department is
unable to provide a visa/work permit for this position.
