Linguistic Field(s): Typology

Call Deadline: 07-Jun-2021

Meeting Description:

There is some exciting work being done by PhD students globally in all areas
of linguistic typology. As there are currently few opportunities to showcase
their work to a specialist audience, this workshop series will give students a
chance to present their work to and receive feedback from experienced
researchers in their field.

We are looking to provide an additional opportunity for applicants to receive
feedback from colleagues outside their immediate network. Some types of
essential feedback (e.g. methodological) can only come from the types of
discussion and exchange that take place at conferences.

For this reason, a group of PhD candidates from various universities have
created an online showcase event for current PhD students in typology and
descriptive linguistics. The series will take place between 25 October and 25
November 2021 and will consist of talks and discussions on a number of days
spread over several weeks. The schedule will be organised to allow for the
range of time zones.

Call for Papers:

We are calling for papers from PhD students working on diversity linguistics
(descriptive linguistics, typology) who would like to receive feedback on
their PhD project from experienced researchers in typology. Abstracts for
talks should be a maximum of 500 words (excluding examples and references) and
demonstrate a link to typological and/or descriptive themes. Questions should
take the form of a brief description of the problem, providing sufficient
context and data. A selection will be discussed in thematic sessions. The
abstracts and questions should be submitted via EasyChair
(https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=ett2021) by 7 June. Notification of
acceptance will be sent out by 1 September.
