Description:

Within the project “Big Data per una regione europea più ecologica, digitale e
resiliente” (Big Data for a European region more ecological, digital, and
resilient), approved by Regione Emilia Romagna Council, funds have been made
available for three-year PhD scholarships for the 37th cycle AY 2021/2022. At
the Department of Interpreting and Translation of University of Bologna, we
plan to grant one scholarship for a project on the identification, analysis,
and prevention of misogyny online using NLP, starting in November 2021.

We welcome candidates with relevant backgrounds including, computer science,
natural language processing, digital humanities, computational and/or applied
linguistics. We encourage students with programming skills and knowledge of
machine learning approaches to natural language processing.

Candidates should apply to the Translation, Interpreting, and Intercultural
Studies program [1] following the instructions to apply to the PhD at
University of Bologna [2].

The application deadline is approaching: **21st May**.

Among others, the application involves submitting a project proposal,
sketching what the student aims to achieve during the PhD research.

Since the deadline is close, interested candidates should contact Prof.
Alberto Barrón-Cedeño [3] as soon as possible for further details and
discussion.

Scholarships are paid to PhD candidates on a monthly basis, with a yearly
gross amount of 15,343.28 euros. PhD students will be provided further
resources to participate in conferences and perform studying periods abroad
for 6 months.

The student will also have the opportunity to interact with the scholars of
the Department of Interpreting and Translation as well as the Alma Mater
Research Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (AlmaAI) [4].
