Description:

The Faculty of Language, Literature and Humanities, invites applications for a
Junior Professorship for „ Historical and Comparative
Linguistics/Indo-European Linguistics” to be filled by 1 October 2022. 

This is a W2 tenure track position. In order to verify whether the individual
performance meets the requirements of a permanent employment, an evaluation
process will be opened not later than five years of service. Tenure track
professors at the HU Berlin are expected to carry out research and teach, as
well as be active on various university committees and acquire leadership and
management skills. The concrete requirements out of the framework catalogue
(https://hu.berlin/tenuretrack_katalog) will be specified in the course of the
appointment process.

The ideal candidate will be involved in research and teaching in the field of
Historical and Comparative Linguistics and Indo-European Linguistics. They
will have an excellent doctorate in the field of Comparative-Historical
Linguistics/Indo-European Linguistics, as well as publications in relevant
journals. Philological Expertise as well as expertise in modern empirical
(including quantitative) methods of Historical Linguistics and knowledge in
digital humanities is desired. The successful candidate is expected to be open
to collaborations with the existing and planned research networks of the
department (e.g., SFB 1412 “Register”), and within the Faculty of Language,
Literature and Humanities, as well as the wider Berlin/Potsdam area.

In teaching, courses are to be offered for the Bachelor and Master’s degrees
in Historical Linguistics as well as for the Master’s degree in Linguistics.
Participation in academic self-governance is expected. 

The applicants must meet the legal requirements for professorial appointments
in conjunction with § 102c combined with § 102a of the ‘Berliner
Hochschulgesetz’.

HU is seeking to increase the proportion of women in research and teaching,
