Linguistic Field(s): Phonology

Meeting Description:

NAPhC is a biennial phonology conference held every other year since 2000 at
Concordia University in Montreal. The conference focuses on phonological
theory in the I-language tradition. NAPhC is usually short for the North
American Phonology Conference, but this year it represents the North Atlantic
Phonology Conference instead. NAPhCxi [ˈnæfkxi], the eleventh installment of
NAPhC, will take place virtually through Zoom on June 27, and feature plenary
talks from three invited speakers:

Yuni Kim (University of Essex)
Jane Chandlee (Haverford College)
Hilton Alers-Valentín (University of Puerto Rico-Mayagüez)

Titles of the talks will be released closer to the time. In order to receive
any future updates directly, including schedules and Zoom links, please
register for the conference using the website link near the top of this post.

In addition to NAPhCxi, this year’s NAPhC will also include (SFP)², the
Substance-Free Phonology Student Forum Panel, a virtual one-day workshop on
substance-free phonology on June 12, with the theme ''What does the learner
have to learn?''. We hope to bring together both junior and senior linguists
representing many different approaches to SFP, helping especially
undergraduate and graduate students orient themselves in the ever-expanding
substance-free theoretical landscape. (SFP)² will feature a panel discussion
with linguists of different backgrounds, and a session of ten-minute invited
presentations from researchers working on SFP and related topics. The workshop
will be open to anyone who wants to attend, and recordings will be made
publicly available on YouTube after the event. The list of panelists is given
below:

Pavel Iosad (University of Edinburgh)
Charles Reiss (Concordia University)
Keren Rice (University of Toronto)
Bridget Samuels (University of Southern California)
Tobias Scheer (Université Côte d'Azur)

The list of invited speakers will be announced in the days and weeks leading
up to June 12. Use the registration link near the top of this post to be
updated with details on both events.

Note that this year there is no call for papers, nor are there any
registration fees.

The organizers:
Bert Vaux (University of Cambridge),
Ollie Sayeed (University of Pennsylvania),
Charles Reiss (Concordia University),
Samuel Andersson (Yale University)
