Obituary

Kashi Wali was born September 8, 1925 in Ujjain, India. She passed away on
April 7 in Syracuse, New York. She was the beloved matriarch of the Kulkarni
and Wali family. She was a noted scholar of Linguistics and author of several
books on and Marathi syntax and grammar and Kashmiri. Her most influential
work was Marathi: a cognitive-descriptive grammar (2005; Routledge: London). 

She received her MSc. from Banaras Hindu University in Physics, and her MA in
Linguistics from the University of Chicago and a Ph. D in Linguistics from
Syracuse University. She was research affiliate with Cornell and Syracuse
University.

She married Kameshwar C. Wali, the love of her life, in 1952 in Banaras,
India. She followed Kamesh to the US in 1958. She is survived by her husband
of sixty-nine years; three daughters, six beloved grandchildren.
