Job Title: Professor (W3) “Linguistics of German with a focus on variational linguistics"
Job Rank: Full Professor

Specialty Areas: Sociolinguistics

Required Language(s): German (deu)

Description:

With 6,500 employees in research, teaching and administration and its unique
profile, TU Dortmund University shapes prospects for the future: the
interaction between engineering and natural sciences as well as social and
cultural studies drives both technological innovations and progress in
knowledge and methodology. It is not only the roughly 33,400 students who
benefit from this.

The Department of Cultural Studies at TU Dortmund University is seeking to
fill the position of a Professor (W3) in “Linguistics of German with a focus
on variational linguistics” commencing as soon as possible.

The successful candidate should specialize in research and teaching in the
field of “Linguistics of German with a focus on variational linguistics”.

TU Dortmund University is seeking an outstanding individual and
well-established researcher in the field of “Linguistics of German with a
focus on variational linguistics” who has relevant, internationally visible
publications in recognized journals including those with peer-review. Research
and publication activities with a focus on at least one of the core fields of
variational linguistics, such as sociolinguistics, dialectology, linguistic
typology, historical linguistic variation, variation resulting from
multilingualism, are expected as well as a specialization in empirical methods
of linguistics (e.g., corpus linguistics).

Experience in conducting empirical research projects as well as relevant
presentations at international linguistic conferences or workshops in at least
one of the above-mentioned areas of German variational linguistics are
required. Applicants should be experienced in the organization and
implementation of collaborative research projects and in working
internationally (via, e.g., project-related research collaborations and
networks, scientific activities abroad).

Applicants should contribute to interdisciplinary collaborative research
projects and networks within and beyond TU Dortmund University and are
expected to have experience in acquiring external funding.

An appropriate contribution to the departments' curriculum in the various
fields of German linguistics as well as in the faculty’s relevant study
programs (e.g., teacher education, Applied Linguistics, Empirical
Multilingualism Research) in German is required.

The successful candidate will possess social and leadership skills and should
be willing to be involved in academic self-governance.

Preconditions for employment are specified in § 36 and § 37 Hochschulgesetz
NRW (law governing universities in NRW).

TU Dortmund University strives to increase the number of women in academic
research and teaching and therefore explicitly encourages women to apply.

TU Dortmund University is an equal opportunity employer and gives preference
to candidates with disabilities if equally qualified.

TU Dortmund University supports the compatibility of work and family life and
promotes gender equality in science.

After entering their basic data, the applicants are required to upload the
standard documents (CV, list of publications, certificates, teaching
evaluations, if available, etc.) as one pdf-file.
